What is Applied Thermal Science?
- The combined study of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and combustion.
What I learned in LAP 1:
- Introduction to Thermal Science
- Temperature Measurement
- Thermal Expansion
- Thermal Energy
In this LAP, I learned about Thermal Science. I was shown how to measure temperature with Celsius and Fahrenheit. I also learned that those are the most common absolute temperature measurements. I was shown how elements like metal and steel expand and contract when heated and when cooled. Lastly, I learned about refrigeration science.
What I learned in LAP 2:
- Thermal System Power
- Ideal Gas Laws and Phase Changes
- Heat Transfer and Insulation
In this LAP, I learned about all of Isaac Newton's laws. I was also taught about gravity. This LAP showed the three phase changes, liquid, solid and gas. I also learned about radiation and how heat is transfered with conduction and convection.
What I learned in LAP 3:
- Laws of Thermodynamics
- Thermodynamic Cycles
- Refrigeration Science
- Pychometrics
In this LAP, I learned about relative humidity and heat. I also learned about module safety. I had to wear safety gloves a lot.
How can I use Applied Thermal Science in Real World Applications:
You can become an HVAC Tech. These technicians install, maintain, and repair heating, venilation, and air conditioning systems.
